Crude, gas and the energy complex — supply, OPEC and the geopolitics priced per barrel.

Why does Antevo say the Strait of Hormuz closure is a duration story, not a deadline story?
The restriction has now reached the headline price. Hormuz departures stayed below their covered-day average of about 285 on every covered day from 4 to 9 October, falling to 163 on 9 October, the lowest covered day since early September. On 8 October December Brent rose 4.1% in a session, and it settled at $104.72 on 9 October, $13.71 above December WTI. The duration reading restored on 8 October holds, and the last market to respond has now responded.
Could Iran charge a toll for passage through the Strait of Hormuz?
Half of the falsifier has fired. The strait's departure count closed below roughly 273 on 25 and 26 September and on most covered days since — passage has been restricted by the count, which is the precondition for a toll that this position said was missing. The second half, the price of the sea-traded barrel, cannot be scored cleanly, and no agreement with a fee was signed by 30 September.
Why did crude fall while the Strait of Hormuz stayed shut?
Crude has fallen for three sessions, but the restoration it fell on has not been confirmed. WTI settled $101.91 on 17 September and Brent $104.82, a third straight decline, on the expectation that Saudi Arabia will restore flows and push more oil out through the Gulf while the East-West pipeline remains shut. The barrel is now pricing redundancy expected to return rather than redundancy returned — and above a hundred dollars.
What is the single best indicator that the Hormuz disruption is physical rather than rhetorical?
The two weekly counts disagree this time, and the product leg still points the same way. The industry's estimate for the week to 11 September showed a 7.14 million-barrel crude build against a 1.8 million draw expected, while the official count, as reported, showed crude falling for a third week with gasoline and distillate stocks both rising. Products building for another week is the opposite of what this position's falsifier requires. Crude then fell 3.21% to $102.43 on 16 September as Saudi Arabia moved to restore a key pipeline.
Where does a lasting shipping disruption show up before it shows up in the oil price?
This position named war-risk quotes and carrier guidance as where a lasting disruption registers before it reaches price. A second and faster place has now been measured, and it is a count rather than a quote: port waiting time. Tankers counted waiting at Antwerp reached 101 on 5 September and 86 on 6 September against a thirty-five-day median of 51, and Jebel Ali reached 29 against a median of 16.5 — while Strait of Hormuz departures ran 316 against a thirty-day average of 323.8.
Who benefits if the Hormuz disruption lasts?
The cost half has now been measured directly rather than reported. Tankers counted waiting at Antwerp reached 101 on 5 September and 86 on 6 September against a thirty-five-day median of 51, and Jebel Ali reached 29 against a median of 16.5, while Strait of Hormuz departures ran 316 against a thirty-day average of 323.8 and the Brent premium over WTI stayed at $4.80.
How do Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries change the oil arithmetic?
This was marked against us a week ago, and it has now partly reversed back. The engine's tanker layer flagged loadings out of the Russian Baltic and Kozmino well above their run-rate in late August, with high confidence — a producer front-loading exports rather than losing them. That surge has not persisted: Baltic departures have read zero on each of the last three settled sessions and their 30-day average has roughly halved.
What happens to oil if the Strait of Hormuz reopens?
Less than a clean recovery, and for a changed reason — but one leg of that argument has now weakened. The toll on the other side of a reopening is not being established: the strait cleared 334 departures against a 321 baseline on the session it was struck. The Russian relocation leg, however, has faded — Baltic loadings have run to zero on the last three settled sessions and their 30-day average has roughly halved.
