What does positioning data tell you that price does not?
The next test has resolved in the direction this position flagged. Crude managed-money net length fell again, to 53,598 contracts in the report dated 6 October from 79,592, the lowest in the engine's record, which begins in April. Two sessions later December Brent rose 4.1% in a single session, and it settled at $104.72 on 9 October with Gulf departures still below their average. The futures crowd was at its lightest when the shortfall reached the price.
What is gold doing, and what has been driving it?
The monetary read holds and its sign has flipped. From 18 September to 7 October gold fell 6.42% to $4,140.70 while silver fell 10.22% to $60.29, silver leading downward having led upward at the last mark. On 28 September gold had its worst day since June, down 3.54%, on a session crude rose 0.92% and the dollar index added only 0.28%, with silver down 4.76%.

Brent rose more than 4% on Thursday, and Europe paid for it in its currency and its banks
2 October 2026Crude jumped and Europe paid in its currency and its banks, not its bond yields. The market is treating imported inflation as a tax on the region and discounting the central bank's warnings.
